Instruction on Baptisms - Part Three
How appropriate that this third part on baptisms, being all about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, is
Blog number Forty Nine - a 'seven times seven' equation, one shy of the number fifty which is the number of Pentecost, that great day when God met Israel in their wilderness and attempted to implant His divine communications within them, and yet their hearts were hard and they refused Him.
They would let Moses speak to them, but not God. Certainly not God face to face. It would cost them everything, you know, if they did that.
I can only bring you to forty nine.
Fifty or Pentecost, the immersion of your life in the Holy Spirit of God, having His power of living communication empowering you daily, moment by moment for the rest of your life...is your choice. Just like water baptism, no one can make this leap of faith but you alone.
The Holy Spirit and our interaction with the Spirit is an absolute imperative. To be perfectly honest with you, it is what the very idea of 'Christian' is all about. It is about you or I being the direct offshoot, the direct extension as a son or a daughter of God within the context of the universe.
It is the Spirit who guides us, teaches us, empowers us, and supplies the full measure of the resources of the Father to us. Without the Spirit of the resurrection saturating our being, us becoming it and it becoming us, we have only come part way and that is insufficient.
In the Son of God instructions, we are taught to ask the Father for the supply of the Spirit, knowing that He will readily give us this miraculous empowerment if we are willing;
If you then, being under the arc of evil, still know how to give good gifts to your own children, how much GREATER and how much MORE will your heavenly Father give then the Holy Spirit to them who ask Him? (Luke 11:13).
The Holy Spirit is the issue in the lives of the sons and daughters of God for the Spirit is the animating energy of God come to take up residence right within us as the impetus of our own persons. The Spirit of God is the seed of God from which the ‘kind’ that God is replicates and emerges.
From the Spirit of God emerges the infinite and eternal life of God inside of us.
After Jesus rose from the dead, he continued to meet with his apprentices for 40 days, teaching
them many more things. He had already told them multiple times about the significance of the Holy Spirit, however, before he finally ascended into heaven in front of over 500 eyewitnesses, he once again spoke to them about their all important immersive baptism in the Holy Spirit and with distinct clarity, it happened just exactly as he said;
And being assembled together with them, he (Jesus) instructed them not to leave Jerusalem, but wait for the very thing the Father had promised to them, which he said, ‘You’ve heard about it from me.’
For John (the Baptist) did genuinely and truly baptize you with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not too many days from now…
Nevertheless, you will receive power, miraculous power, ability, strength, and might after the Holy Spirit comes upon you, overtaking you and transforming you and then you will become the living proof and convincing evidence of me… (Acts 1:4-5 & 8).
And when the day of Pentecost had fully arrived, they were all together, with one mind, with one single focus, with one desire and passion, with every one of them intent upon the very same thing.
And suddenly a sound began to be generated, echoing from heaven and sounding exactly like an enduring, sustaining, rushing, forcible, even violent and mighty blowing wind, and the sound completely filled the whole house they were occupying.
And they began to see what appeared to be a distribution of tongues appearing as if they were like fire which then sat down and affixed itself upon each and every one of them, hovering there and dwelling there.
And subsequently they were all, each and every one of them, furnished and filled, influenced and supplied with the Holy Spirit and in conjunction with this overarching power that had come upon them, they began uttering sounds, articulating what seemed like words and thoughts, but they were a completely different class and form of words and languages, actual dialects that none of them had ever heard before, but they were speaking out in unified accord with what the Spirit was delivering to each one, and they in turn spoke out those same utterances of the high and elevated discourse (Acts 2:1-4).
There is an amazing thing happening here.
The power of the Holy Spirit engulfing a man or woman in the very passionate flame of God’s own passions will directly affect the speech center(s) of the brain.
Throughout all of scripture we are faced again and again with the topic of speech and words, particularly in reference to human resonance with the words of God.
Words are power according to their source. Words create as well according to their source. In the Son of God unveilings we learn that words themselves, all words, contain within them a spiritual component (see John 6:63) and the spiritual component of Jesus words are ‘life’.
This is consistent as well with Solomon’s understanding of the spiritual component of words;
Death and life are in the power of the tongue and what a man loves, what consumes a man,
determines what his fruit will be (Proverbs 18:21).
James has much to say about the tongue and the incredible power associated with the tongue and the apostle Peter has much to say about it too. James goes so far as to say the tongue itself is the resource of all wholeness (perfectness) in a person's life;
In many things we all stumble and fall, but if any man does not stumble and fall in his words, that same man has come into his wholeness, his completeness and perfectness. He is a mighty man, strong and powerful and full of influence and wealth, and he is able to bridle (govern and lead) the whole body (James 3:2).
Says Peter – For he that has purposed to take pleasure in life and to love it dearly, and to see many, many good days, let him cease and desist from allowing his tongue to speak forth any trouble and things destructive and toxic things, and his lips from speaking any trickery, subtleties meant to subvert and take another’s good or goods by craft and deceit (1st Peter 3:10).
If any man speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God, giving divine utterance (1st Peter 4:11).
With the power of words being what they are in the supernatural economy of all things, is it any wonder that the power of the Holy Spirit coming upon us is directed towards our speech center(s)?
Is it any wonder at times that our mouths are filled with divine languages and words, that at times if we listen and respond we may find ourselves speaking in tongues of angels and at other times in tongues of men?
I think it is not so much the actual words as it may be the Spirit of the words.
It is not the phonetic structure or even our earthly ability to understand the sounds, but it has much to do with the Source from which the sound, the spirit and the emotional essence within it emerges.
May all our tongues be cloaked and clothed within the powers of the Holy Spirit. Come Holy Spirit, saturate us completely. Endue us with the power from on high.
Let us speak the words of God as the prophetic oracles we are created to be.
